Board observers at growth-stage fintech firms are often handed page counts instead of decisions. A useful pack for audits and oversight is short, argued, and tied to money movement.
Four pages that earn their place
- Customer-money pathway changes since the last meeting
- Aged reconciliation breaks above threshold
- Open high-severity audit findings with owners
- Material AML escalations and their closure status
What to leave out
Animated volume charts that do not connect to control failures. Logo walls of partners. Generic “risk heatmaps” with no sample testing behind the colours.
Make findings discussable
Each open finding should state residual risk in plain language: who could lose money, which customer segment is exposed, and what temporary compensating control is in place. Directors can then choose urgency without decoding jargon.
Link to fieldwork
If you commission a control environment audit, ask for a board-ready summary appendix. The full memorandum stays with management; the appendix keeps governance focused on choices rather than methodology theatre.
